Amazon makes it so easy right now, uh, with access to the brand analytics and the product opportunity explorer to give you all the information that you need, that you basically don’t need anything else from the outside, unless it’s something that’s, uh, going to compile that data that they are giving you.
[00:00:00:19 – 00:00:00:39] INTRO
Welcome fellow entrepreneurs to the Amazon sellers school podcast, where we talk about Amazon and how you can use it to build an e commerce empire, a side hustle and anything in between. And now your host, Todd Welch.
[00:00:00:40 – 00:00:01:21] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
What’s going on everybody. Welcome to another episode of Amazon seller school. I’ve got my friend Alex Kiru on today and he is, an expert when it comes to Amazon search engine optimization, he’s been selling on Amazon since 2013, he’s had four exits so far has been involved in over 12 brands and the new brand that he is a part of they’re scaling super fast and have launched over 400 new products in the last four months. So he definitely has a background in this and definitely has the skills, the talk on it. So Alex, I appreciate you joining me today.
[00:00:01:21 – 00:00:01:25] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Thank you. Thank you, Todd. Thank you so much for the, for the invite. I’m excited.
[00:00:00:40 – 00:00:01:46] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yeah, I’m excited too, because 400 products being launched. I mean, you’ve got to have. A lot of things optimized, a lot of things automated, and we’re going to be diving into a lot of that stuff today and exactly how you guys are going about optimizing these listings and ranking them and getting them selling.
[00:00:01:47 – 00:00:03:21] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Yes. Uh, we like to run a pretty lean team. We only have a team of five at the moment. Um, and we, we are keeping busy. I can tell you that, but most of the process is pretty much automated. We’ve managed to automate the, the SEO optimization through AI. Uh, we’ve managed to train the AI to produce the perfect listing every single time based on the inputs that we give him. Uh, so right now the ai, uh, SEO copywriting plus the image section, it takes us around 23 to 25 minutes to produce a listing. So it’s, it’s pretty fast. Once you have the templates in place and once you have the whole structure, then everything is, it’s easy. And then we just give it to the advertising department and they start doing their magic. Uh, but we are lucky enough to be in a niche where we don’t have to compete with a ton of sellers. Let’s put it like this. So just by doing normal advertising campaigns, get you there with no problems. And we are not looking for huge numbers on every single product. We are just looking to sell a few units per day from each product, and just expand the catalog to get to 5,
[00:00:03:22 – 00:00:03:31] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Oh, wow. Okay. So you’re going to go that big, five to 10,000 products, and you don’t think that’s going to be a nightmare to deal with a catalog that size?
[00:00:03:32 – 00:00:03:54] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
No, we are implementing an ERP system right now. That’s going to help a lot. And we’re looking next year to open a warehouse. Most probably it’s going to be on the west side in either in California or Nevada. I mean, next year we are looking into launching probably around 2000 SKUs. Okay. That’s the plan.
[00:00:03:54 – 00:00:04:23] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Interesting. And, and so this isn’t necessarily a part of, uh, search engine optimization, but I’m curious how you guys will, will manage the logistics side of that when it comes to, you know, all the inbound placement fees, the low inventory fees with a lot of slower moving products. You know, you’re not going to be sending in pallets of every single skew. So you might be getting hit with a lot of inbound fees and such.
[00:00:04:23 – 00:00:05:13] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Uh, yes, but we are using AWD right now and it’s been going great for us. So we are basically cutting costs on every single shipment. We’re not using standard shipments. So we are just letting Amazon do their, their magic. Uh, once we are going to have a warehouse and then once we are launching onto all the other platforms right now, we are updating, we are looking into launching by the end of the month onto eBay and Walmart. TikTok is going to come next in December or late January. And then we are going to go to all the other related platforms for that niche by the middle of next year, probably. We are already discussing a few partnerships. Okay. So we are scaling fast.
[00:00:05:13 – 00:00:05:53] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Very nice. Well, I’m excited to see, see how that goes for you. And really excited to learn. More about, uh, you know, optimizing the listings, especially the speed at which you guys are, are able to do it. Um, but I think that’s one thing that a lot of people struggle with is doing a full optimization of a listing, which for some people that can take. Days, weeks, months to get it the way that they actually want it. And then they’re always tweaking it and things like that to try to optimize it for the algorithm. So if you’re ready, we can go ahead and share your screen and dive into it.
[00:00:05:53 – 00:00:06:21] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Uh, in my opinion, people are just looking too much to outside help outside platforms. Uh, when they should be looking solely on Amazon and nothing else because Amazon right now provides all the necessary data that you need. You don’t need anything else. You don’t need all the noise that’s coming from all the other platforms. I’m trying not to name them, but I might not succeed on that.
[00:00:06:21 – 00:00:06:30] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yeah, they’ve opened up a lot of data recently and given you a relatively easy access with the, the user interfaces that they have.
[00:00:06:31 – 00:00:06:43] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Yes, exactly. And we can, we can look a little bit to that as well, but. um, we can go through the presentation first and then we can go through that as well.
[00:00:06:43 – 00:00:06:59] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. Yeah. And for anybody that’s just listening on the podcast, uh, we’ll do our best to explain everything that’s on the screen as well, but you may also want to jump over and watch this on, on YouTube to get the full experience.
[00:00:06:59 – 00:00:10:01] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
So, uh, Todd already did a great presentation on me. I’m not going to go through this unless. You want me to, before we talk about SEO is you need to ask yourself if your listing is actually ready for the SEO. Um, I know I speak about this a lot, but your browse path, the subcategories and the item type are by far the most important things that you have in your listing that will tell you if your product is ready for the SEO. Basically, all of those three things, they need to be perfectly aligned in the backend. And you need to make sure that, uh, the product type matches the whole browse path and matches the, the GL, which is the general ledger, how they call it in the back end. Uh, the display on website, the browse node ID, and all of those things are perfectly aligned. If one of them is disconnected or is off, you are going to experience a ton of issues from, uh, ranking issues, reviews not being merged. Um, dropping in sales, high cost per click, no impressions in most cases. And we saw in the last six months something that was causing this. Um, and I spoke with Amazon, we started resolving it eventually. And, um, they started changing their flat files because of it, because now they are aware of the problem. Um, and it’s basically The GL in the backend, the GL in the backend, you cannot verify it, um, on the parent level in any other shape or form, except for the, um, the base source code in the backend, the, um, the HTML that can be done with inspecting the element, uh, on the product page. I, we can go into this and I can just open Amazon and I can show you what I mean. but you will find that if you have a parent with three children, for example, let’s say they are, they supposed to be in beauty in pillowcases. Uh, if the parent, the parent could be in home and kitchen and the children could be under beauty. That is basically a disconnect in, in the back end of the system. And We’ve been dealing with that for the past close to four months right now. The moment we updated everything, and you cannot update it yourself, you need to speak with them on every single listing and ask them to update it. Uh, the moment you get that update running, you will see your listings just jump. They will, they will start mixing, they will start ranking just by changing that small piece.
[00:00:10:02 – 00:00:10:13] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yes. Okay. And so that’s essentially the category that the product is in. Yes. You have a variation listing and some products are in one category, the other is in something else.
[00:00:10:14 – 00:00:10:26] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
The problem is that it’s just not showing up in the category listing report. And it’s not showing up anywhere. In the backend, that’s the main issue. So you can only see it in the source code.
[00:00:10:27 – 00:00:10:39] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. Yeah. So anybody who is familiar with programming probably knows the inspect console and such in a, in a browser. Most people are probably not familiar with that.
[00:00:10:39 – 00:00:12:00] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Yeah. When you’re looking at your product on Amazon, uh, just by right clicking on the page, and you go all the way to the bottom of the menu, and you click Inspect, it’s going to open a new window on the side. Yep. That’s going to show the HTML code. If you are searching there for, uh, this section, Display on Website, as it, oh, I’m sorry, this here, Display on Website, um, it’s going to Find exactly the string that contains that once you find that string. Um, if it’s a parent product, if it’s a, well, if it’s a product with variations, it’s only going to find the string for the parent. And you will have to check that parent to see exactly where it’s located. If it’s wrong, you can easily contact catalog team or catalog specialist. If you have access to it, most accounts do right now and, um, it’s a very easy fix for them. It takes literally five minutes if you know exactly what you’re asking. Uh, this is their terminology. This is not something for us, but this is what they have in the back end in their system. So when you’re telling them about the general ledger or the display on the website. They will understand exactly what it is.
[00:00:12:00 – 00:00:12:08] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. So is this a problem that you’re only seeing with variation listings or can this happen with, with non variation listings as well?
[00:00:12:08 – 00:00:13:14] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
You can see that with anything. Uh, you can see on your own listing, you might be in the correct subcategory, but that, because that subcategory has a correspondence in another category. So for example, we have products in automotive. Between door handles, door handles exist in home improvement as well. In my case, the door handles were under home improvement instead of being under automotive. So, that caused that discrepancy between them. And, um, apparently the problem came from the flat files that they had in the system. It’s their own flat files that you are downloading from Amazon inventory templates. They had that error. We’ve managed to speak with the director of category and after two weeks, he eventually acknowledged that yes, they have a problem in the system and they are fixing it. So, yes, I don’t know if it’s common knowledge or if I should say that, but It is what it is.
[00:00:13:14 – 00:00:13:31] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Interesting. Yeah. So it’s, it’s only if you uploaded a flat file, what if someone had created the product through the GUI, is this, is it possibly an issue there? Like if the AI messed it up or something like that?
[00:00:13:32 – 00:00:14:16] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Yes. Uh, the AI is also messing up those listings because now the AI finds the same correspondent and it’s, it’s trying to place that product. It’s into what, whatever he thinks the product is, and now that the AI got a little bit smarter, but before, while, while they were testing it, a ton of people had those kinds of issues. And I’m still finding a lot of sellers who have the same issue. I was speaking with someone yesterday, could not yet pass position 101. And the moment we fixed that, he started jumping to 70. Uh, by this morning, he was position 40 and still going.
[00:00:14:16 – 00:00:14:33] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Interesting. And so what are we looking for? So let’s say you’re, you’re in the doorknobs category in automotive. What, what will it say for display on website? Will it say automotive doorknobs or is it more cryptic than that?
[00:00:14:33 – 00:00:14:45 ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
No, the display on website is usually the main category. It’s going to say home improvement, or it’s going to say home and beauty, or the display on website is the large category.
[00:00:14:45 – 00:00:14:48] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. So you want to make sure that that matches.
[00:00:14:48 – 00:00:15:26] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Yes. We want to make sure that that matches the product type. So if you remember, uh, let’s see if I have it. Yes. It’s on the other slide. This. So the product type here, in this case, it’s pillowcase, and you will see that the display on website in the back end is going to be home and kitchen. Okay. This is the correct one. But if you are going to scroll through, um, um, the list when they are, uh, giving you all the possible options, you will see that that pillowcase exists in beauty as well. Mm hmm. And, yeah, that’s my cat.
[00:00:15:26 – 00:00:15:34] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Interesting. So you want to make sure that is correct because otherwise you’re just going to be bashing your head against the walls trying to figure out why you’re not ranking better.
[00:00:15:34 – 00:00:15:38] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Correct. So you want to make sure that everything is perfectly aligned.
[00:00:15:38 – 00:00:15:40] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. Very good.
[00:00:15:40 – 00:00:17:24] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Uh, also very important, uh, when you are doing your listing, when you are first starting out with a new product listing. Make sure you download your, uh, BTG file in the Browse Tree Guide. It’s very easy to find. You can just search on it in the console in Cellar Central. Uh, it’s going to prompt for it. You download it for your own category, the category that you want to go into. And when you’re going to search for your subcategory, in this case, let’s say it’s Skate and Skateboarding Kneepads. Uh, when you click in that file, it’s going to open the second sheet and On that, you will have all the required attributes that need to be completed in the backend. This is what the algorithm is looking for, for relevancy purposes, but it’s also what it’s looking for for the overall catalog contributions. So if you don’t have those catalog contributions set up from the beginning, then Amazon will have to go in and do it automatically on your behalf. When Amazon has to go in and fill all of those fields in the back end on your behalf, you are going to lose the retail contributions. That means that, uh, you’ve for sure you’ve seen that happening and or you’ve seen sellers that have been complaining that they cannot modify the listings, they cannot modify the title, the bullet points after so many years. It’s because they lost those contributions. It’s because they only put the minimum information possible on the product listing. So Amazon had to go in and added multiple contributions to the listing. So they took over that those retail contributions from them.
[00:00:17:24 – 00:00:17:32] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yeah. So make sure you’re filling out everything that is required and everything optional as much as possible too, right?
[00:00:17:32 – 00:00:18:15] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Yes. And basically that determines your reconciliation score. And we have it here. It’s basically it’s a, it’s a pyramid structure every single time in the Amazon system. Um, if you are using SAS, the SAS program, uh, you can ask them for the IDQ reports. The IDQ reports are basically going to tell you your overall listing score and your overall, uh, seller score and how that Listing if that listing is ready for the algorithm or not, because every single piece of information in the Amazon system has a scoring behind it and everything builds in that pyramid.
[00:00:18:15 – 00:00:18:16] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
How do you see that score?
[00:00:18:17 – 00:00:18:37] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Uh, only for SAS. So you need to be registered in the SAS program and they are going to give you that. You cannot request it. Otherwise, I think vendor central might have access to that. And I don’t know. I’m not better. Um, but, from my knowledge, only SAS can give you that, if you are in the program.
[00:00:18:37 – 00:00:18:42] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. All right. So you got to be in that special program to be able to see those scores.
[00:00:18:42 – 00:00:18:52] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
I mean, everyone can jump on the SAS program, but it’s, it’s going to cost a little bit of money. Okay. It’s not an absurd amount, but it’s not cheap either.
[00:00:18:52 – 00:00:19:00] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. Do you know, is there what the website is for that off the top of your head? Uh, for what? Do you know what the website is to, to access that or to sign up for that?
[00:00:19:00 – 00:00:19:19] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
For SAS? Um, you can just search on Seller Central for SAS, SAS core, and you will see, um, I think I have a link. I have a link somewhere. I’ll search it and I can send it to you if you want.
[00:00:19:19 – 00:00:19:21] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. Yeah. That’d be awesome. You can put it in the show notes.
[00:00:19:22 – 00:00:23:28] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
In some cases it’s by invite only, but I know for sure you can apply. Okay. Um, they have different tiers. They have, I took, I think three tiers if I’m not mistaken. For sellers who are doing over 10, 15 million per year, and they just go down. Uh, and they have premium support for tier one and so on. So they can resolve a ton of issues. Um, they can, uh, invite you to different kind of deals, best deals, top deals. Uh, you can get access to different programs that they are developing. Um, and they can help you a lot with the listing creation. Um, and any kind of. Problems or escalations. You might have. Okay. All right. So it’s the seller support on it’s a business support on steroids. Yeah. It’s not always beneficial, but if you need it and you, if you’re growing, in my opinion, it’s, it’s a no brainer. All right. Very good. Okay. Let’s see. Uh, I can do a demonstration on this, how you can find it afterwards. Um, so this is basically the issues that you might face. Um, the BSR might disappear completely from your product page. So if you are not showing up a BSR, it’s not the category. It’s just that you have a disconnect in the backend. Uh, you are going to lose the Amazon choice badges. You will see ranking drops. Let’s say the product was stable at in position four on all the major keywords. Right now has been slipping in position 10, 15, 20, and 30, and you just cannot stop it, no matter how much you’re spending on advertising. Uh, you will see the reviews being unmerged if you have a listing with variations. Um, listing discoverability issues, that means it’s not being ranked on certain keywords. Higher cost per click and you will see the decreased page views and sessions in the business reports in Seller Central. And when you are calling the catalog team or the specialist team, if you have access, uh, you can ask them to change the display on website on your product and or give them the correct path. So from home improvement display on website, you need to give them the correct path. Automotive display on website, for example, that’s all you need to do. And they will know exactly where to check. If you just tell them that my category is not correct, they don’t have the same terminology in the backend. In most cases, they don’t know what you’re talking about. So they, they need to be, uh, either sellers themselves to understand what you’re talking about, or you need to speak in their own language. Yep. Makes sense. Uh, yeah. So for once you have that done and you made sure that now you are basically your listing is basically ready for SEO, uh, and for optimization, uh, as I said in the beginning, I don’t see any reason for people to use the outside platforms anymore. Amazon makes it so easy right now, uh, with access to the brand analytics and the product opportunity explorer to give you all the information that you need that you basically don’t need anything else from the outside unless it’s something that’s, uh, going to compile that data that they are giving you.
And so far what I found, um, I think JungleAce and Datarova are the only ones who are actually pulling the data out of Amazon. And they are just trying to organize it properly. Everything else is just using scraping data. Um, there are, there’s a big platform that’s using only Jungle Scout data. There is Helium 10 and so on. It’s, um, it’s just in my opinion and with all the tests that I did on me and any other client that I had, uh, they are just not reliable on the advice that they are giving you. For the keywords that you should go after.
[00:00:23:29 – 00:00:23:37] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. So if you’re launching a brand new product and you want to know what top keywords you’re looking for, uh, which report are you diving into for that?
[00:00:23:38 – 00:00:25:54] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
The Product Opportunity Explorer. So in the Product Opportunity Explorer, if you’re searching for your main keyword or for the main product, uh, you will be prompted with a list of possible keywords or markets related to that product. You’re going to choose. The most related category for that product, and you will have a full list of all the required keywords that you need to focus on for that specific market, for that specific product. Those are basically your SEO core. Um, you don’t need, in my opinion, more than that. And they usually give you a list of at least 20 to 30 keywords. Um, you don’t need more than that, and they also give you data on the customers. They are giving you data on the growth of those terms. Um, they’re giving you the most frequent, uh, language that the customers are, you know, using when they are reviewing those type of products or what they are searching for. So you can basically just take all of that information and incorporate it into your listing. And right now with their AI, um, this is exactly what the back end AI is doing. The back end AI is Cosmo. Uh, what we see on the front end for the customers is Rufus. So Cosmo is, and they have a few others as well, but Cosmo is responsible right now, from my knowledge, of reading everything that you have on your listing and interpreting that data and giving it into Rufus. So they analyze that product listing and they already have the database of customers. They’re huge database of customers and they know every single thing about their customer. Every single trade that their customers have. Uh, what they purchase, where they click, um, the frequency of purchases and so on. So they know exactly where to show those products. This is what the AI has been doing in the back end, nonstop.
[00:00:25:55 – 00:00:26:20] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yeah. And this, this probably has, uh, something to do with, uh, this last week for, in the Amazon news, we talked about how Helium 10 and Jungle Scout have, usage has declined by about 50%. I believe it was in the last year or one or two years, one or the other, but, uh, that that’s probably plays a big role in that because you can access all this data right in Amazon now.
[00:00:26:21 – 00:00:26:41] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Yes, exactly. And from all I know, I might be wrong. They completely refuse to connect it through the API. So that’s on them. Why? Because the Amazon API is available. Why they refuse to connect it and improve their platforms. I don’t know.
[00:00:26:41 – 00:00:26:49] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Interesting. All right. Very good. So you utilize all the tools that we have right in Amazon to pretty much do everything you’re going to need for optimization.
[00:00:26:49 – 00:00:27:53] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Yes. So the search query performance reports. Uh, those are in the back end in the brand analytics section, and you can download them. Uh, you will need, so if you are talking about an all listing optimization, you will need the minimum eight weeks of data. You want to go, uh, weekly in terms of granularity, only because it’s much more detailed. Um, you can download the search term impression share report, which is basically is going to contain the advertising reports that you have for the last two months. And once you compile those two data points, you can basically see, um, all the keywords where your product is performing the best. All the keywords where your conversion is about the market, where your click rate is about the market, where you have a high impression share. Uh, when you have a low click share and so on, so you can easily see where you need to be and what you need to improve the numbers and the data is going to give you exactly that.
[00:00:27:53 – 00:00:27:54] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yep. Okay.
[00:00:27:54 – 00:00:29:12] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Uh, in terms of the ranking, unfortunately, Amazon doesn’t have a ranking data right now implemented, so we are still relying on outside tools, but just for ranking, you can use whatever you want. I prefer to use Datarova and right now we’re using, uh, we’re moving everything into. Scale Insights, because we are using Scale Insights to manage our advertising as well. And they started doing, uh, a rank tracker, uh, together with the advertising, similar to what Datadive is doing. Um, and they are implementing it by the end of the year. Um, and then you have the product opportunity score for whatever you want. Even if you have a new product or an old product, you can find all the information that you need in the product opportunity score. But once you optimize based on the data that Amazon is actually giving you, you will see a higher relevancy. You will see a lower cost per click and you will see a better ranking overall because they know what’s best for their customers. So they are giving you exactly that data. Why would you want to optimize with something that has been scraped from Amazon? I have no idea.
[00:00:29:12 – 00:00:29:14] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yeah. Get the data right from the source.
[00:00:29:14 – 00:00:30:51] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Exactly. Um, those are just basically a few results. What happens when you start optimizing? And how the conversion rate is increasing, the percentages that it’s been increasing and also the ranking, how it’s improving. Um, overall, just by doing some small tweaks, uh, based on the data that Amazon is giving you. So let’s say you find something that has and will go, uh, we’ll have a few slides on that. You’ll find a keyword where you are, you have a high click through rate and a high conversion rate. But you are still on the third page. If you know you are perfectly aligned in the back end with the product type, GL type and everything, but you will see that that keyword actually is missing from being, uh, in the beginning of your, um, of your listing. So you take that keyword, you place it in the beginning of your title or in the first bullet point, and you start seeing shooting up, because now, That relevancy issue is basically resolved, and Amazon has the history of the click through rate and the conversion rate, so it’s now shooting you up because of it. So just doing some small tweaks with that, it’s, you are, you are going to see the benefits. And it’s not a hack, it’s not It’s something a gray hat or black hat. It’s just pure listing optimization based on the data that you have from Amazon, nothing else.
[00:00:30:51 – 00:00:31:03] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. So you’re still, you’re seeing a big improvement just by taking, you know, your, your best keyword and making sure that’s in the beginning of your title and in the first bullet.
[00:00:31:03 – 00:00:31:58] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Yes. Well, your best keyword meaning based on the metrics, if that keyword has strong metrics, yes. Um, just by placing it in front of your, uh, listing, yes. Um, Amazon, unfortunately still has a hit and miss problem indexing your listing completely. Um, that’s why you need to make sure that your title and the first two bullet points basically are the highest, have the highest frequency of indexing. Um, the title gets indexed close to 95%, but in the first two bullet points, 80 to 90%. And everything else, it’s basically a hit and miss in most cases. Um, you just want to make sure that your SEO core or your list of keywords are present in the first three in the title, bullet one and bullet two.
[00:00:31:58 – 00:00:32:00] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. Very good to know.
[00:00:32:00 – 00:00:33:58] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
So when you’re looking, this is a presentation mostly for how to use JungleAce. So what JungleAce is doing, basically it’s, and it’s not my tool, I have. No affiliation with them. I know them personally, but nothing, um, from them. Um, it’s basically combining your brand analytics data in the back end together with your advertising data in a way that you can actually see it and utilize it without having to put formulas in place in Excel and start processing your data by yourself and it’s going to take you probably eight hours to do that. This doesn’t automatically, this pulls everything automatically. Uh, it’s connected through the API. And every single time you’re going to enter JungleAce, for example, you’re going to have a huge dashboard on how your catalog is performing, uh, your average conversion rate compared to the market. And then you can deep dive onto every single keyword and you can see Uh, this is the conversion rate of the keyword. This is my conversion rate compared to the keyword. This is the click through rate of the marketplace. This is my click through rate of the listing. This is my impression share. This is my click share and so on. So you can take, uh, decisions based on that. And they also give you, based on those numbers, they give you, um, possible optimizations. So they will have four different sections where they tell you, You have a high conversion rate and a high click rate on this keyword. You should push it on PPC or you have this. You should increase the visibility. You should decrease the visibility because you’re just not converting on those keywords and so on. So they give you an automated advice on how to optimize everything. So you don’t have to learn that by yourself.
[00:00:33:58 – 00:00:34:02] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. And that was jungleace.com you said? Yes. Okay.
[00:00:34:02 – 00:00:34:32] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Again, not affiliated with them. I just love their software. So, um, we are looking for keywords that are converting above the market conversion rate. Uh, we are also looking for new keyword opportunities. Uh, we need to filter out and remove maybe the, the ones with a low conversion rate, the ones that are not performing. It’s basically just like. Um, what you are doing with when you’re optimizing your advertising, it’s the same thing that you’re doing on SEO. It’s the same thing.
[00:00:34:32 – 00:00:34:50] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. So you’re actually removing keywords with low conversion rates to try to make the product not show up under that keyword any longer. Correct. Okay. Yeah. Cause I suppose that hurts your overall ranking for the better keywords as well. Cause Amazon just sees the lower conversion rate.
[00:00:34:50 – 00:00:35:31] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Well, it’s going to hurt you only on those. Keywords. But if those keywords are related to the root keyword, yes, it’s going to hurt you eventually because everything to Amazon comes to, uh, and I said that before, uh, to relevancy, click rate and conversion, everything else is just noise in my opinion. If you have those three things and you, if you’re dominating the market with those three things, you have a higher conversion rate than all of your competitors. You have a higher click rate because you have an amazing main image and an amazing title And you have all the seo Keywords in your title, bullet points, description, and so on, you’re going to win either way.
[00:00:35:31 – 00:00:35:56] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yeah. Yeah. I think that’s a big one that most people, a lot of people don’t talk about removing keywords from your copy. Cause I think a lot of people would just be like, Oh, I’ll just pack it full of keywords. Even if I’m just getting, you know, one out of a hundred gets me a sale that clicks, that’s an extra sale, but in reality that could potentially be pulling down your listing for other keywords as well.
[00:00:35:57 – 00:00:42:14] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Um, this is where you can basically download your information. I know a lot of people are not using the search query performance. Uh, it’s more, in my opinion, it’s one of the most powerful tools that we have in the Amazon space. Um, you can find it under brand analytics. It’s here. Uh, it’s giving you the reporting age, the weeks that you want to download it for. And here you just input the ASIN, um, and how to download the search term impression share report. Uh, this is for the advertising report. Uh, this is exactly, I’m going to share the presentation with you so you can add it to the channel as well and send it to, to everyone if you want. Sure. So I’m not going to go on how to set up this and how to download those. Right now, JungleAce is doing this automatically through the API. So you basically don’t need to do those anymore. When I did this presentation, that wasn’t the case. Um, but still, some people are still, uh, might still want to do it manually, how they can find it. And then once that data gets imported into JungleAce, you can see here. Everything that it’s giving you is giving you the impression share. Um, for that as a, it’s giving you the market conversion rate compared to, uh, brand conversion rate. It’s not the brand, it’s a product. Uh, uh, conversion rate. They named it wrong here, but this is per, for that ASIN specifically, it’s not for the whole brand. Uh, the, so in this case, for example, the, the. The product has a high click rate compared to the market, but it has a very low conversion rate compared to the market. And that can basically mean usually it’s two things. It’s either images, uh, or it’s the offer, the pricing type of stuff. Usually it’s nothing else. So just by tweaking those things, just by optimizing your images properly or adding an extra dollar off coupon or whatever you want on your listing, it’s going to make the switch. Okay. So it’s some very easy things that you can, uh, you can use. Um, And then again, they changed the dashboard. This was the old dashboard when we were using Excel when we are using Google Sheets. But this is what they identify automatically. They give you, for example, this is the keyword and they advise you to increase the visibility, increase the ad spend. Why? Because the brand conversion rate is bigger than the market conversion rate. It has a moderate impression share, a moderate click share and a high purchase share. So based on all of those metrics, you should just increase the ad spend. That’s it. That’s all you need to do. Um, And you can do that for every single keyword and they will give you an advice for every single keyword that you have and how to optimize it properly. So you don’t have to understand all of those metrics. You can just do whatever they tell you because it’s It’s based on algorithmic, um, on their algorithm in the back end. And then you have, uh, those are just a few examples on how to increase the visibility you have the ASIN conversion rate about the market conversion rate and the low impression share. Uh, you can move the keyword, how to do that. You can easily move the keyword in front of your product, uh, listing title. You increase the PPC bids. I prefer to go for exact match campaigns. And what one keyword per campaign with top of search increase. Um, the top of search increase is between 200 and 300% should be more than enough. Um, and you are going to start seeing, uh, that keyword, that keyword ranking starting to move up. Yeah. In the Amazon search just by identifying a few low hanging fruits. Um, the same happens the other way around when you want to decrease the visibility because you’re overspending on a keyword that’s not performing. Uh, you will have to increase the market share. You will have the ASIN conversion rate. It’s higher than the conversion rate, the market conversion rate, but you have a high market share. You can easily increase the ad spend on the high performing search terms and expand the keyword coverage. And you can still optimize the listings to maintain that high conversion rate. You can optimize your images, your A plus content, your brand story. A lot of people are underutilizing their brand story and their brand catalog and their A plus content, unfortunately. Every single piece of your listing should sell. Customers on Amazon are only going there to buy a product and to find a promotion. Nothing else. They don’t care about your brand. They don’t care if it’s a mom and pop type of shop. They don’t care about your history and so on. That’s for Shopify. That’s for DPC. It’s not. On Amazon, usually people are buying in their, uh, cigarette break or lunch break, uh, when they are at work or during the evening, when they are tired, they just want to scroll through three or four products, decide on one, uh, that captures their attention and they’re off. They’re not going to spend hours on Amazon like they do on social media. So getting, drawing that attention to your listing, it’s. It’s, it’s imperative.
[00:00:42:15 – 00:00:42:27] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
So you say that, that everything should be geared towards selling. Uh, so even your brand story, you’re not really telling the story of the brand. You’re just focusing on selling the product in there as well.
[00:00:42:27 – 00:00:42:40] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Yes. So I can show you exactly that. Uh, this, this is in the brand story.
[00:00:42:40 – 00:00:43:01] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. All right. So you’ve got even a promotion right in the brand story, save 20 percent now, buy our self tanning drops with any of our kabuki brushes. Okay. Interesting. So you’re not telling the story where you are in that second slide. It looks like a little bit about beauty by earth, but beginning,
[00:00:43:02 – 00:00:43:38] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
you’re focusing on that in the brand if you want, but initially what you want to do is you want to highlight All the other products that you have in your catalog, because this is just free traffic. It’s not costing you anything. It’s zero cost. If you’re, if they see that they can save 20 now and they also need, um, I don’t know, something related to the self tanning drops or another sleep mask or some scrunchies or some detergent to go with their self pillowcase. It’s, it’s a very easy set.
[00:00:43:38 – 00:00:43:42] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Interesting. And you don’t ever have any issues getting this through approval?
[00:00:43:42 – 00:00:43:47 ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Never. And even if they don’t approve it, you try again. You know, the story with Amazon.
[00:00:43:48 – 00:00:44:02] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yep, for sure. All right. No, that’s a really good tip for people to try out by just focus on selling even in your brand story and A plus, of course, but a lot of people use A plus for fluff content as well.
[00:00:44:03 – 00:00:44:34] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
I know. And also you can do it in your images. I prefer to do it in my fourth or fifth image. Um, usually on the product page I do, uh, something like this. Ollie has been doing it for years and Ollie is a huge brand. Okay. Um, but there’s well with They don’t give you an offer They just tell you that they have other products in their catalog. I’m doing it with promotions.
[00:00:44:34 – 00:00:44:54] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yeah, no, that’s a really good idea. Cause uh, you know, just shopping with my wife for, for baby stuff on Amazon, you find something that you like, and then a lot of times they’ll click over to the store and see if they got some of the other things that you have in mind. But if you see that right in the photo, then you’re even more encouraged to do that
[00:00:45:54 – 00:00:45:14] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
And you are clicking on the store only because you know, you are an Amazon seller and you know where the store is. Most people don’t want that. So you need to give them that information. You need to tell them where to go, basically. And this increases your, uh, average order value tremendously.
[00:00:45:14 – 00:00:45:32] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yeah. Yeah. So for anybody just listening on the, they have a graphic that has four different squares and one square is like pairs well with, or save 10 percent now. And then in the three other squares, it’s showing the different products that would go well with the current product they’re looking at. Very good idea to play with for sure.
[00:00:45:32 – 00:00:45:40] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
And again, They are not going to say anything about zero.
[00:00:45:40 – 00:00:45:45] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yeah. Yeah. Probably not, especially if you’ve got it, like you said, in your fourth or fifth item or image, I mean.
[00:00:45:45 – 00:00:47:07] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
So what I found in all the testing is usually most of the attention goes to the first five images. Everything else is basically just to fill up the space. Um, and you have 10 to 12 seconds maximum to capture their attention, even less than that. So they click on your listing, they start looking at the first two, three, four images, if nothing captures their attention. In most cases, they are not going to scroll down to see the A they are not going to scroll down to see the reviews. They are just going to bounce and they are going to click on all the other product listings that they found in the search results. If you manage to capture their attention, they are going to stay there and they are going to want to read the reviews. When they are reading the reviews, they are going to scroll and they are going to see your A Nobody reads your bullet points. They don’t care. That’s why in the app on the Amazon app, you will see the bullet points are all the way to the bottom of the listing. Now, uh, Amazon knows that. Those are just for SEO and for indexing purposes. Okay. So the images and how you capture their attention is by far the most important thing.
[00:00:47:08 – 00:00:47:36] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. Yeah. I’m going to, uh, super, you know, analytical person and, um, have that mentality. So I always like to read the bullets on things that I’m buying. So that’s always annoying when I got to scroll all the way down to find them, if I’m looking for something specific, like what is the weight of this suitcase and you know, how much, uh, can it hold, uh, you know, cubic feet and things like that. I’m looking for a little details. Like that. But most people don’t shop like that.
[00:00:47:36 – 00:00:48:00] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
No, most people are looking at the size. If they’re buying a suitcase, they want to make sure that it’s TSA approved. They can travel with it without, uh, putting it, checking it in. It’s a carry on. That’s all I need to know by the looks of it, it seems to be tough. It says that it’s tough on the pictures. Perfect. So it must be tough. I’m going to buy it and the price is good and it’s much cheaper than a Samsung.
[00:00:48:00 – 00:00:48:05] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yep. Yeah. That’s how 95 percent of people shop for the most part.
[00:00:48:05 – 00:00:48:07] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
89 percent you’re in the one person for sure.
[00:00:48:07 – 00:00:48:08] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yeah, probably.
[00:00:48:08 – 00:00:48:15] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
But yeah. And plus if they don’t like it, they can always return it. So why spend so much time in purchasing something?
[00:00:48:15 – 00:00:48:16] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Very true.
[00:00:48:16 – 00:00:51:57] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
We’ve been spoiled. That’s why. So yeah. Um, this is the Product Opportunity Explorer. I’ll go over it. Uh, a little bit quick, uh, it’s going to give you the buyer intent keywords in the product opportunity score. So when you are clicking on the search terms, uh, this was for electrolytes, for example, everything that you will see here, that this is basically your SEO core, uh, the semantic relevance. And it’s also going to give you the overall trends, the overall volume, the growth and the competition for those specific keywords. So it’s already giving me exactly what all the other outside platforms were giving me directly from the source. Again, why would you use them? So, um, what I would highly recommend is always focus on exact match, uh, phrases and keywords, uh, as much as possible. So if Amazon recommends a keyword. Even if it’s long, make sure you have it in the exact match. It’s either in the title or either in the first two bullet points. Ideally, that keyword could be, um, to be a long tail keyword of the main root keyword. So if you have electrolytes as the root keyword, then you would want to start maybe your title with something like sugar free electrolytes powder. Something, something, and like this, you’re also targeting the root keyword. You’re also targeting the long tail keyword and it’s a match made in heaven for Amazon for sure. Um, and then I don’t know if I have it in this one. Let me just double check if I have what I consider to be, you know, what I consider to be the best title structure would be to always have your USP in front of your title. So If your product is natural and it’s using natural ingredients, make sure you start your title with that. So it’s going to be all natural vitamin D3, K2 and so on, because most people just start with their brand name and then they put the main keyword. Your brand name does not matter on Amazon, unless you are a very big brand. If you have monthly searches for your brand, then it’s fine. But. If you don’t, and most people don’t, your brand is getting indexed either if you put it in front of your title or you don’t put it at all. So go for that USP initially for all natural, um, I don’t know, high strength. Super potent, 10x concentrated vitamin D3K2 and so on. Um, because that’s going to improve your click through rate and it’s going to make you stand out in the search results as well. When people are looking through a thousand products on the main page, I’m exaggerating, but still, if all of them are the same and you write something like 10x more concentrated vitamin D3K2, they will be curious to click on that list. They want to see why and how you can sell a 10x more concentrated product at a similar price with all the others. It can be a marketing gimmick. Yes, 100%, but it’s working.
[00:00:51:57 – 00:00:51:16] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yeah. Even, uh, maybe using just the word unique and then following it up with, um, you know, the, the search term that you’re targeting, that may be enough to, to pick someone’s curiosity. If that your product maybe is unique in some way versus the rest.
[00:00:52:17 – 00:00:53:29] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Uh, I’m not a huge fan of using unique or premium when I see unique or premium, I think of. Um, low quality product, whoever has a low quality product wants to be unique and premium somehow. So I would rather highlight, even if all the others have the same feature in that product as you do, but you are the only one highlighting it in the title and also maybe on the main image, that’s going to give you an edge over everyone else. If everyone is selling a broom and the handle is aluminum, but you are the only one who has aluminum broom set something, you are going to get more clicks than everyone else only because now they think, Oh, this is not going to break that easy. So you’re going to filter them out a little bit and you’re going to educate them as well. You’re going to guide them through your listing. Um, and I think pretty much that’s what I have.
[00:00:53:29 – 00:00:54:05] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Okay. Awesome. Yeah. Some very good, good information there for sure and things to play with. I really liked the, uh, checking your category in the, in the beginning to make sure that the website, the code actually has the right category and those image hacks and stuff as well, or not the image hacks, but the brand story using that to promote. The products and your other products. And just like you said, always be selling and focusing on those, the best keywords.
[00:00:54:05 – 00:00:54:11] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Yes. Uh, the, GL type in the beginning, it’s very, very, very important.
[00:00:54:11 – 00:00:54:17] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yeah. Yeah. Otherwise, like I said, you’re just going to be beating your head against the wall and why your search engine optimization isn’t working.
[00:00:54:17 – 00:00:54:40] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Yeah. And I’m part of different groups of large sellers. Everybody’s facing this right now, this year. So it’s, it’s, it’s insane how many problems, problems this caused. I mean, I saw eight figure businesses dropping like, like a rock because of that. And they couldn’t figure it out.
[00:00:54:40 – 00:00:54:58] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Very good. Yeah. So definitely something I’ll have to check on some of my products right away. Um, and make sure that it’s not an issue because there is a couple that I’m thinking of that we’ve been banging our head against the wall. So I’ll have to look and see if maybe that is the issue that we’re dealing with possibly.
[00:00:54:58 – 00:00:55:01] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
I guarantee you in those cases, that’s an issue.
[00:00:55:01 – 00:00:55:14] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yeah, probably. I’ll be looking at that right away. Uh, but on the screen here, you got your email address. hello@seolegion.com and your website, seolegion.com. Uh, what do you guys offer over there?
[00:00:55:14 – 00:00:55:41] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
So the website is not live yet. Just so you guys know, we have time to publish it. I will publish it probably this week. Hopefully. Um, it’s basically what we are doing. We are doing the SEO for you. We are doing the, um, The main image is the A plus content, the brand story, uh, the storefront and so on. We can do those things for you.
[00:00:55:41 – 00:00:55:43] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
So full service done for you, optimization.
[00:00:55:43 – 00:00:55:50] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Basically. Uh, we also have, uh, the advertising part. We can manage your advertising completely as well.
[00:00:55:50 – 00:00:55:53] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Awesome. Uh, any social platforms that people can connect with you on?
[00:00:55:53 – 00:00:56:02] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Only on Facebook, usually. I’m not very active on all the other social platforms. Unfortunately, I don’t have time for them.
[00:00:56:03 – 00:00:56:06] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Alright, probably a good thing. I waste too much time on there sometimes.
[00:00:56:06 – 00:00:56:13] ALEX CHIRU | AMAZON SEO EXPERT
Yeah, it’s, I’m not usually, uh, you know, I’m not usually in, in the front line.
[00:00:56:13 – 00:00:56:15 ] TODD WELCH | HOST OF AMAZON SELLER SCHOOL
Yep, absolutely.
